Step 1 : Getting a Russian Invitation Letter

Russian Visa ApplicationTo obtain a russian visa you first need to get an invitation. There are five types of invitations for Russia: tourist visa, business visa, student visa, private visa, and transit visa. Unless you plan to stay in Russia less than 3 days, the most efficient options in terms of price and time are the tourist and business visas.

A tourist invitation letter with vaucher is needed to get a russian tourist visa. Tourist visa can be valid for up to 30 days and are single or double entry. So, a tourist visa is the best if you stay in Russia not longer than 1 month and need a single or double entry only.

A business invitation letter is needed to get a russian business visa. Business visa can be single / double / multiple entry and valid from 1 to 12 months. Business invitation is an invitation letter issued by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

Step 2 : Getting a Russian VisaRussian Visa

When you have an invitation, you need to submit it to the russian ambassy of your country (see our embassies addresses) and apply for a visa.
You can apply in person and collect your visa to the consulate or apply by post by registered service and it will be sent to you back within 9 days.


What to send for a russian visa application:

  • Your invitation (a fax copy is accepted) with a touristic voucher
  • A sikness insurance form has to be filled up. (Download a sample here)
    • Ask your insurance for an attestation of Sikness Insurance valid abroad (Original) for the citizen of Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Estonia, Greece, Israel, Italia, Luxembourg, Netherland, Portugal, Finland and France.
    • Your passport (It should be valid for at least 6 month after the visa expires)
    • One photo passport signed on the back
    • The consulate application fee to obtain the visa. This varies according to the location of the Russian Embassy. Check with your Embassy for information on their visa fees
    • To apply for a russian business visa, in addition to the documents and papers listed above, a consulate may require a travel insurance, HIV test (for stay exceeding 3 months, or multi-entry visas), and other documents

    Step 3 : Getting your Russian Visa Registered


    Russian visa You need to register your visa within three working days (72 hours) upon your arrival to any Russian city. The registration is a small stamp in your passport.

    If you don't register your visa, you may be fined by police and by passport control officials when you leave Russia. The registration fee varies from 5 Euros (hotel) to 30 Euros (homestay). There are several ways to get your Russian visa registred:
    • If you stay in a hotel, the hotel can register your visa for the whole period of your visa's validity (but not more than 3 months).
    • If you stay in an appartment or B&B that you have renz with us, we will register your visa.
    • If you stay by your own somewhere else (in an apartment, with your friends, camping etc.), the russia visa must be registered in a Police station or at he post office by the owner of the accomodation whre you are. If you buy an invitation with us, you can aslo register in our offices in Moscow (50 USD) and St-Petersburg (30 Euros). Contact us for more information.
    • If you stay for more than 3 months in Russia, then the registration should be made in a local UVIR office, a company that issued your invitation can assist you in making such registration.
