Peterhof palace & park
Peterhof is 30 km to the West of St.petesburg, formely known as Petrodvorets.
A Baroquespectacle of incomparable beuty, the palace of Peter the Great,
was built to rival Versaille and boasts beutiful fountains and gardens.
The place was looted and practically rased to the ground during World War
II and the restoration work is still in progress. The complex alsoincludes
the "Monplaisir" and "Marly" palaces and the Hermitage Pavilion.
Working hours: Park 09h00-20h00 daily. The fountaines operate 11h00 - 18h00,
from the last Sunday in May to the end of September.
All museums are open from 10h30-18h00.

St. Isaak cathedral
St. Issaak Dalmatia was the patron saint of the Romanov family. The present
version of St. Isaak's, the fourth, was constructed from 1818 to 1858.
Everything was done on a grand scale. the portico columns, cut from red
granite, are seventeen meters high; the mosaic inside has twelve thousand
shades and colors; the walls are five meters thick. Inside there are hordes
of paintings, csulptures, and mosaics by 19th century Russian and European
masters, including a huge fresco on the inside of the cupola by Karl Bryullov
and a bust of Montferrand made of different colored marbels and other minerals.

Catehdral of the Savior of the Blood
The Cathedral "Bleeding Saviour" or "the Ressurection" is
somewhat arbitrary as this church has twenty different names depending
on whom you ask. On this site a terrorist from the revolutionary organization
People's was mortally wounded Tsar Alexander II on march 1, 1881, by tossing
a bomb at his feet. His son, Alexander III, began the construction of the
memorial church in 1883 and it was completed in 1907 during the reign of
Nicholas II.Working hours: 11h00-18h00, Monday - Sunday.

Yusupov palace
In 1916 a group of men of high standing, including one of Grand Dukes,
led by the prominent anglophile prince Felix Yusupov, had conspired to
kill a man who was to them a real threat to the future of the already war-torn
Russian Empire. Grigory Rasputin, a peasant who had gained
control over the tsar's family through his alleged supernatural powers,
was murdered at the Yusupov Palace on the night of December 16-17, and

PETER & PAUL FORTRESS
Designed to protect newly acquired lands from invading Swedes, Peter and Paul Fortress lost its military significance before it was completed. Its guns never saw any action and were put to use as a flood warning signal and the fortress housed a political prison for two hundred years. St.Peter and Paul Cathedral is the burial vault of Peter the Great and other Russian Tsars.Open: 11h00-17h00, closed Wednesdays and the last Tuesday of every month.
