Olkhon is definitely one of the most mysterious and famous places at Lake Baikal. Local Buryat people believe that island is a place where the spirit of the lake - Burkhan lives; tourists, both Russian and foreign, admire outstanding beauty and original landscape of Olkhon. If Baikal is the pearl of Siberia , than the island is the heart of the lake. For tourists who are short of time and can’t spend 5-6 days exploring the island we offer a short 3 days tour just to feel magic atmosphere of the island, visit the most popular spots and enjoy real Siberian hospitality of the locals. Tourists will see dense taiga forest and wide plains, high cliffs and sandy bays, grassy hills and sea-like water immense. The best time is from mid June through mid September. Driving by van (such as used in Russian army) to Olkhon , this trip gives you the perfect chance to feel the magnificent beauty of the Baikal, see the life of native Buryat people and admire the famous Olkhon sunsets.

PROGRAM

Jeep russeile d'olkhon

Day 1
Driving from Irkutsk to Maloe More (Small Sea). The road to Olkhon (totally 300 km) is partly a bumpy dirt road going up and down woody hills (50 km), so the whole drive takes about 6 hours with the lunch stop in a little café. By ferry to Olkhon Island. from late May till mid November, crossing the strait by ferry boat. Winter: February till April drive on the ice. Accommodation in cabins in Khuzhir village (302 km) Excursion to Shaman Cape .

Day 2
Khuzhir Sightseeing. Driving to the northern part of Olkhon Island, Sandy bay, Uzury village, Khaboy Cape. Picnic. Return to Khuzhir.

Day 3
Driving back to Irkutsk via Buryat settlements Elanzy, Ust-Orda (mainly along modern highway). Stop at the sacred place, donation to spirits.
